Spring is on its way, and it’s the perfect time to get your home ready for viewing. There’s also no better time to get down to some serious spring cleaning. Here are some spring cleaning tips for home sellers who want to impress buyers for a quicker sale.

Embrace your inner neat freak

Now is not the time to cut corners on your cleaning routine. You may want to take a few days off of work or plan to give up your weekends for a while so you can get down to the serious business of deep-cleaning your home. Try to look at your home from a buyer’s perspective–would you want to buy a house with dirty baseboards, dusty curtains, or a grimy bathroom? These are all big turn-offs for buyers, so make sure you nail every detail with your cleaning regime.

Decluttering helps

Decluttering not only makes your home look less disorganized (and bigger), it also makes cleaning easier. Dust as you pack things away, then put the boxes straight into storage so they’re out of the way. Sometimes, it’s not dirt that’s the problem, but rather an overall feeling of clutter that makes a home seem grimy. Clear out the clutter, wipe away the dust, and create a welcoming sight for buyers.

Give windows a little extra TLC

Take advantage of natural light when showing off your home. This means you’ll need sparkling clean windows, so scrub them inside and outside, then make sure your curtains are clean and hanging perfectly. If you have one, use a squeegee to clean the glass–it cuts down on streaks and gives a more professional look.

Don’t overlook dust in high places

Just because you don’t always see it, it doesn’t mean that it’s not there. Dust the tops of doorways, ceiling fan blades, and the tops of cabinets. It’s not too likely that buyers will check these spots, but if there’s a chance they may, it’s worth taking the extra time to eliminate the dust. Use a damp cloth or duster to reduce the mess and make the job easier.
